Community Resources

St. Mark’s wants to help you connect your faith and life by walking with you in all seasons of life. We have created this list of community resources and organizations as a starting point.  We desire to walk with people in mental health struggles, addictions, divorce, grief, and more.

Please reach out to let us know how we can help connect you to place and people that can help address your current situation and concerns.

  • AA - Alcoholics Anonymous

    A.A.’s primary purpose is to help alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

  • ASAC - Area Substance Abuse Council

    Area Substance Abuse Council (ASAC) is a non-profit, private organization which provides treatment services for teenagers and adults dealing with substance abuse issues.

  • Bridgehaven Pregnancy Support

    Since 1983, Bridgehaven has offered compassion, hope, and help in the circumstances before, during, and after pregnancy in the Cedar Rapids area. We serve both women and men and our services are always free and confidential.

  • Central Furniture Rescue

    Central Furniture Rescue is a nonprofit that helps turn a new place to live into a home. We do that by collecting furniture and household items from the community. Then we provide them to referred clients who are transitioning from homelessness into a new place to live.

  • Chains Interrupted

    Chains Interrupted is a group of people whose hearts have been broken by the evil of human trafficking. Sobering statistics show very few victims ever get out of “the life”. We focus on preventing human trafficking from ever happening.

  • Counselors - Christian Based

    Christian counselors provide counseling services, rehabilitation support and advice from a spiritual perspective.

  • DivorceCare

    DivorceCare is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life's most difficult experiences. Don't go through separation or divorce alone.

  • Family Caregivers

    The Family Caregivers Center is Eastern Iowa’s only comprehensive resource for family caregivers. Services – including support, education and social opportunities – are available at no cost for caregivers assisting adults living with chronic medical conditions (dementia, cancer, arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, hearing conditions, etc.)

  • Gems of Hope/Cancer Support

    Gems of Hope is a nonprofit offering support to local cancer patients receiving treatment. Gems of Hope offers community workshops where cancer patients, friends and families come together to create these Gifts of Hope. Local youth camps, school library programming and scholarships are also made available for families affected by cancer.

  • GriefShare

    It hurts to lose someone. GriefShare is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. You don’t have to go through the grieving process alone.

  • HACAP

    HACAP is a community action agency serving 9 counties in Eastern Iowa. We embrace the philosophy of "a help up, not a handout" in our commitment to empower and improve the lives of families, living with the everyday barriers of poverty.

  • His Hands Free Clinic

    Our mission is to bring glory to God by meeting the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of those in need in our community.

  • House of Hope

    At House of Hope, individuals are encouraged, equipped, and empowered to live fully through spiritual, emotional, and mental health support.

  • LGBTQ+

    Below is a partial list of organizations who are committed to helping the LGBTQIA+ community, their families, and their allies. Support groups are geared towards individuals, families, friends and allies of gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer, transgender and questioning people. Resources are available for Health and Wellness, Education Opportunities and Scholarships, Arts and Entertainment, Legal Advice, and other helpful links.

  • Linn County Financial Resources

    General Assistance serves individuals and families in Linn County who are experiencing a financial crisis. General Assistance can assist temporarily for up to 2 months or provide ongoing assistance depending on the situation. You must meet the primary eligibility requirements.   • PreMarital Counseling

    Premarital counseling supports couples to build a healthy and solid foundation ahead of the long-term commitment of marriage. Below is a short list of resources to take a marriage assessment.

  • Riders Club

    Riders Club of America can provide safe, effective transport for your loved ones even when your schedule does not allow you to drive for them

  • Salvation Army

    The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

  • Senior Living

    One of the fastest-growing options in senior living is independent living communities. Caring.com created a free resource that provides comprehensive information on the available options in Iowa.

  • Sleep in Heavenly Peace

    Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a group of volunteers dedicated to building, assembling and delivering top-notch bunk beds to children and families in need. The organization has grown steadily over time, and is working on opening more chapters in different states to serve more people. No kid sleeps on the floor in our town!

  • Suicide Prevention Hotline

    The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is a national network of local crisis centers that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the United States. We're committed to improving crisis services and advancing suicide prevention by empowering individuals, advancing professional best practices, and building awareness.

  • United Way

    United Way is an international network of over 1,800 local nonprofit fundraising affiliates. United Way seeks to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good. We bring people together to build strong, equitable communities where everyone can thrive.

  • Waypoint

    For over 125 years, Waypoint has existed as a vital community resource for individuals in need. They help individuals and families obtain permanent housing, shelter single women and families with children, empower domestic violence victims and survivors through advocacy and support, and provide high-quality child care to hundreds of children weekly.

  • YPN - Young Parent Network

    Young Parent Network was founded in 1985 by community leaders who recognized that there was a lack of support for young families in Cedar Rapids. Since that time YPN has taken on a leadership role in East Central Iowa as the provider of ongoing comprehensive year round programs that meet the most critical needs of thousands of families within our community.

  • Feeding Lunches to Youth (FLY) serves sack lunches Monday through Friday during the summer months to children who might otherwise not have lunch. FLY aims to spread the message of Jesus Christ and the joy of providing and giving to children.

  • Hope Community Development Association (Hope CDA) exists to help men escape the prison of poverty, helplessness and hopelessness. Hope CDA’s mission is to demonstrate Christ’s love by equipping individuals to transform their lives through gainful employment and skillful living.

  • Marion Cares, Inc. is a faith based, non profit organization in Marion, Iowa that services families, children and youths in our community.

  • Matthew 25 is an independent, local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to Improve the health of people and neighborhoods by investing in quality affordable housing, healthy food, educational opportunities, and community building. Groundswell is an initiative of Matthew 25, whose mission is to empower people to transform neighborhoods. Groundswell consists of a pay-it-forward cafe and an events venue.

  • Mission of Hope is a Christ-centered ministry offering physical, emotional, and spiritual support to those in need. We serve hundreds of people each year – the poor, the homeless, the addicted, and those in need of restoration. Some drop in to meet basic needs – food, clothing, and shelter. Many find God’s love! As we work together with the local church and our community, lives are transformed through the love and grace of Jesus Christ.

  • What began as a 3 month stay in the fall of 2005, has now grown into a nutrition center, health clinic, elementary school, university, seminary, and training center for medical and agricultural students. Led by JeanJean and Kristie Mompremier and their Haitian and US Boards, UCI continues to grow, meeting the needs of the community, while touching the lives of Haitians through sharing, studying, and living out the Gospel. From these small beginnings, the gospel has turned a small village that was marked by voodoo and hatred, into a community that works together.

  • Wellington Heights Community Church is a multicultural community in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, joining God in the reconciliation of all things through worship, reconciliation and neighborhood development.
